Summer is a Great Time to Evaluate Your Brand

By Friday July 30th, 2010

July is a perfect time to step back, evaluate your brand and processes, and consider enhancements.

I just read a post by VC Fred Wilson about the opportunity to connect with VCs during the “summer slowdown” right at a time when they are working less, golfing more and may just have clearer minds.

I think it’s a good approach. Traditionally July is not our best sales month, in fact it’s slowest behind January. Good weather, beach getaways, baseball games and barbecues take their toll on big deals, not to mention getting in touch with an important decision maker can be difficult until the smoke clears in August. Historically August has proven to be a comeback month where customers return from vacation, regroup and say, “The holidays are coming and we need to make sure we’re ready.”

So, July is a perfect time to step back, evaluate your brand and processes, and consider enhancements. It is now the third year in a row that we have made large-scale improvements to our own presentations, website, and processes during the slow months of July and early August.

Don’t get me wrong, I think July is a great month to get in front of a client, customer, or VC, so when September comes and the budget is there, your company is top of mind. Stay too quiet in July and you just might be off the radar when things pick back up.
