Other Events work
Brolik wanted to create a casual atmosphere that would bring Philly's best innovators, creators and entrepreneurs together to network and nurture collaborations. So, In late 2009, with the help of client cateringbymiles.com, we formed Bring Your Own Philly (BYOP), an exclusive networking opportunity with fine fare.
Each event is intimate and includes guests from different industries and fields. We believe that 5-10 memorable conversations, like those at BYOP, are more valuable than 10-20 quick business card exchanges common to larger networking events. The first events were held at Philly Kitchen Share, a shared-use commercial kitchen available for hourly rentals by caterers, personal chefs, bakers and other food professionals. The open-air kitchen provides the perfect laid-back environment for guests to network and discuss business while enjoying a five course meal and interacting with the chefs as they prepare the meal.
Results:
BYOP has provided exposure for both the venue and the caterer, Catering by Miles and has created new business opportunities for some of the guests involved. A perfect example is the relationship forged between Brolik, Comcast Spotlight and Philadelphia Fashion Week, when a simple conversation turned into a collaboration between the three parties to create and air a commercial for PFW. Other guests have formed new relationships which will help to grow their businesses in the near future.
Future:
Brolik will continue to host monthly BYOP events and develop their idea by adding new locations and chefs to provide exposure for up-and-coming catering companies, restaurants and venues. So far, BYOP marketing has spread through word of mouth with a simple website to support RSVPs and event information. As the event continues to grow, Brolik will invite others to host a BYOP who, as the title suggests, will be responsible for bringing their own Philly party. The concept would be appropriate for associations, networking groups, or any business looking for an innovative form of collaboration.
