Infographic of the Day: What’s the Fastest Web Browser?

By Monday July 29th, 2013

There are a ton of browser options out there, and for the amount of time we all spend on the Internet, you don’t want to waste any more time waiting for pages to load. To help shed a little light on the benefits and drawbacks of what’s available, I’ve created an infographic detailing the features of various browsers.

There are a ton of browser options out there, and for the amount of time we all spend on the Internet, you don’t want to waste any more time waiting for pages to load. To help shed a little light on the benefits and drawbacks of what’s available, I’ve created an infographic detailing the features of various browsers, how popular they are, and how they perform against one another. In addition to general stats about the browsers, I’ve also included data from Tom’s Hardware’s Web Browser Grand Prix, published every few months to see who’s on top of the web browser game.

Speed performance results are measured in milliseconds and factor in both hot (the browser is newly opened) and cold (the browser is reopened) start up times. Performance results also factor in start times depending on the number of tabs open, as well as Javascript and HTML performance within each browser. Quality performance results monitor memory efficiency (with both single and multi-tab browsing), reliability (number of crashes/reloads), browser security, and conformance to the guidelines of HTML5/CSS3/Javascript.

While the infographic does not reflect all existing browsers, it highlights the important details of the most popular browsers in use. Though more popular than Opera, Safari has been excluded from the infographic, as it is no longer available for Windows like other browsers being measured. Though Chrome has grown substantially in popularity over the last few years, it appears there’s some strong competition coming from Firefox. For the time being, it looks like Firefox is the overall winner, being the fastest browser with the most secure and efficient features.
