Learn About Our Branding Process

We work with brands to develop an overarching brand strategy with tangibles like brand promise, positioning statement, unique value propositions (UVPs), and pillar messaging.

Naming a brand is a crucial first step in the branding process. We've worked with companies of all stages, from startups needing a name to launch with, to established brands looking for a fresh start.

Our logo and identity design process is a collaborative effort between our strategists, designers, and creatives to form a word mark, icon, lockup and color palette that sets you apart.

We can also produce various assets to go along with your new brand. This can be any asset you need refreshed or created for your website or marketing, including photography selections, branded icons, custom social avatars, and sales collateral.

The final step in a good branding process is to clearly lay out guidelines for how to use the brand in the real world. We do this in a comprehensive document, laying out dos, don’ts, and usage guidelines so our clients are empowered to never venture off brand.

“I brought Brolik in to help our association with a rebrand and was so pleased with the work and the relationship that we continued right into a complete rebuild of our website.”

Our Branding Process

Discovery Workshop

Our team leads a discovery workshop with the client to discuss vision, goals, target audience, and competitive landscape. Then our creative team goes to work.

Round A: Typographic Concepts

After a few weeks of exploration, Brolik presents 7-10 typographic concepts - these are wordmarks of varying styles, fonts, color variations, and formatting. The client then provides feedback, and we start to narrow in on 2-3 general directions to develop.

Round B: 7-10 examples for Icon, Wordmark

Our focus in Round B is depth, more than it is variety. We develop various colorways and mockups to see each concept in a real-world context. With the example of RideSeg, we chose a social media avatar, an airport advertisement, a luggage tag, and a branding-on-airport. These mock-ups are different for each client depending on their product, service, and industry. At the end of Round B, the client chooses a single direction: a wordmark and icon, to move forward with.

Round C: Final Lockup and Color Variations

We develop the chosen wordmark and any related icons, emblems or other pictorial identity elements into a Final Lockup - the goal here is to see the final solution, but with 3-4 color variations, including grayscale. At end of round C, client chooses a single color palette, and new brand identity is born!

Final Brand Package Delivery

At each round, we explore specific elements or directions, explain their impact, and make recommendations on what we feel is the best path for our client. We take feedback at every round and collaborate to make sure the brand represents the personality and values of our clients. It’s our job to ensure that the brand speaks to your audience just as much as it speaks to you.

We’ll Build You A Brand, And Then Some

Our approach to branding is entirely focused on achieving your business goals. Traditional branding agencies focus on the aesthetic and winning awards, and their “job” is done when they deliver the logo package. We’re the opposite. We work with you to launch the brands we create, test them, and refine the positioning, messaging, and visual identity over time. We utilize our expertise across design, marketing, and strategy to support the launch of your new brand — considering all angles and the impact of our decisions on your business.

“Brolik nailed our brand. Others have tried to push an identity on us in the past, but Brolik spent time to understand our mission, people and culture first.”

FAQ

What’s included in a branding engagement with Brolik?

At its core, a branding project with Brolik includes the foundational elements of your brand identity: logo design, brand mark, iconography, color palette, typography, and brand guidelines. We create mockups to show how your brand will look in the real world and, if needed, can extend into a second stage to apply your brand across business cards, letterhead, PowerPoint decks, event signage, and more.

A branding project can also include brand positioning and messaging, identifying your opportunity and advantage in the market, and defining how to communicate your unique value to your audience.

We also offer naming services as an optional part of a branding project. Our goal is to develop a name that reflects your brand personality and helps you stand out in the market. As part of our process, we research trademarks and available domain names to ensure the name you choose is both usable and legally viable.

How does Brolik help develop or evolve a brand?

Brolik works with clients to understand their current market position, business vision, and competitive landscape. We help define how a brand should stand out, both visually and conceptually, so it aligns with long-term goals.

As businesses grow and markets change, we also help evolve brands with thoughtful updates, ensuring they stay modern, relevant, and consistent with the company’s current identity and state of business. This can range from small refinements to a more significant refresh, depending on needs.

How long does a branding project typically take?

Branding projects typically take 8-10 weeks, depending on the scope, deliverables, and rounds of feedback. We typically use a three-round review process to refine the brand and ensure it meets your vision before finalizing all deliverables.

Do you work with internal stakeholders or executive teams during branding?

Yes. We make it a priority to involve leadership teams and key stakeholders throughout the branding process. Because branding decisions can have high stakes for a company, we ensure everyone is heard and aligned.

This collaboration is built into our discovery phase and workshops, often using interactive exercises to make teams comfortable sharing ideas and perspectives. The result is a brand that reflects both the company’s vision and the input of those who guide it.
